My father- My friend & My Star

It is not easy to pen Shrandhanjali to my beloved & respected father Sri Charan Singh Varma (Engineer) (born village Chandpur & married in Bhatona) who has departed for the heavenly abode on 17 June 2009 at 6 pm following a month long illness. He was young at heart at the age of 87 (as he learnt computer & email at age of 84 years. and a soul with determination (8 km walk to school in 1938 to Thompson Engineering College Roorkee- presently Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee). His marriage into powerful Bhatona Teotia family of British era Revenue Magistrate (my Nananji) showed his likeness by one and all. My father's financial support resulted in freeing the entire agricultural land (of grandfather) from lease, purchase of another 14 acres of 100% irrigated land ( close to land ceiling act), construction of three houses, extension of village Haveli, marriage of three girls- Buaji, Sarlaji (eldest daughter of Chacha ji) & Shashi Prateek and raising of children of Shashi ji in Muzaffar Nagar. He was the long distance race & athletics gold medallist in college- several cups in village Haveli are a testimony to the same, and merit scholarship holder through out his student days. He was a very keen student of maths, Sanskrit and English. A child like eagerness to know what is happening in the world made him travel, out of his own money to,- London UK, Oxford, Cambridge, Milan, San Francisco, Washington DC, Chicago, New York, Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland & Bangkok, apart from domestic destinations like Chennai, Bangalore, Sikkim, Darjeeling, Srinagar-Kashmir & of Garhwal, Shimla, Rameshwaram, Kanyakumari, Ooty, Mumbai, Goa,& Kodaikanal, He strongly supported the concept of Tanmya's education in USA. A strict disciplinarian, he was not only father to me but also a friend, guide, philosopher, and a bright star which has shown me the right path to where ever I have reached today. I am eternally grateful to him and will miss him beyond what the words can express. He did not worship any statue as he believed in One & Only One God who can not be seen. As his only son, my personal loss is limitless.
My wife Bina, my daughter Tanmya and myself wish to thank everyone for the condolences offered and sharing our unlimited grief.

With Sincere Regards

Ravi Kant
